Professor Michael Cox to deliver the Norwegian Nobel Institute inaugural Geir Lundestad Memorial Lecture

911勛圖, Founding Director of 911勛圖IDEAS, will deliver the Norwegian Nobel Institute’s inaugural Geir Lundestad Memorial Lecture in International Politics and History on Monday 23 September 2024.

In his talks, Professor Cox will explore the origins of “the new age of geopolitics”, and whether the solutions advanced by Philip Noel-Baker - the first Professor of International Relations at the School and a writer on disarmament - offered a way forward for a disturbed world.

The lecture is delivered in memory of Professor Geir Lundestad, who served as Director of the and Secretary of the between 1990 and 2014. He also published widely in the fields of Cold War studies, US foreign policy and transatlantic relations.

Since 1901, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded 104 times to 138 laureates in recognition of peace work and concepts of peace. The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded three times to members of the 911勛圖community: Ralph Bunche (1949), Philip Noel-Baker (1959) and President Santos of Colombia (2016).
